A friend of mine linked me to this oddball Craigslist find: a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for the slightly bonkers price of $4,000. Obviously they're counting on the collectibility of this specimen to ask four figures for a 30 year old Tempo with 104,700 miles, especially when the tachometer and fuel gauge are "hit and miss."

Strange. It's been months since I went to Oppositelock and I came to ask is FordTempoFanatic is still around.

Ah, memories. I still remember the distinctive interior smell of my parents' Tempo, though, in this case, I'd guess that the diesel smell covers all other odors on this car.

Having been a former owner of an '84 Tempo (2.3 3AT), I can say that the ONLY reason this one hasn't met the same scrapyard fate as 99% of its brethren at six-figure mileage is because of that engine/trans combo.
The 2.3 HSC I4 was only ever good for 90k.

We had one of those Diesel when I was a kid, the incredible fuel economy was undoubtedly the only selling point. 140km/h top speed, the vibrations from the engine will drive you crazy, the plain steel exhaust pipe had a two years life expectancy... But! Add a little time and even the worst experiences makes greats memories.

My sister bought an 88 Tempo coupe 2.3 HSC 5-speed in 2004 — for $700. I taught her how to drive a stickshift in that car.
That day we started out on our cul de sac and came to a stop sign. She forgot to push in the clutch and the car bucked and stalled. Because of the way she was driving (12 and gearshift) she bumped the horn pad and blew the horn. I laughed and she hit me.
Later, she put "RARY" on the back, in mailbox letters. She had that car for about a year until it decided to grind its internal engine parts into a pile of metal shavings and sludge. I don't miss that car at all. Neither does she, but she's glad to have learned the dance of three pedals.

Weird. How'd they get 97,000 miles on the car in just three months?

sorry not the actual same car but the exact same model.

No way! I already have both my dream cars, and $4k would go a helluva long way to making my 220,000 mile Protege5 drive like the 50,000 mile Protege5 I bought 10 years ago.
